Madrid has more than 358,000 university places across its 20 public and private institutions. Each academic year, over 35% of those places are taken by students coming from outside the region: around 32,000 international students and close to 100,000 from other parts of Spain.

What international students actually need

Residences range from full board to accommodation only. A rented flat requires more thought: proximity to campus, but also to supermarkets, pharmacies, gyms and social life. Most undergraduate and master's students are between 18 and 30, and those arriving from abroad often need help adapting to a city of 3.5 million people, particularly if they come from smaller towns.
